This is Heather posting.
After a lifetime of doctors thinking her demise was imminent, my mom finally died. February 20th, at 10:30 pm.
People at her apartment complex are surprised it actually happened, too. She’s always bounced back before, even after clinically dying twice over the years.
It sucks I don’t have a mom any more. But I’m glad her pain has ended.
We booked a last minute ticket to come here, leaving 5 hours after we booked it. I told her not to feel like she needed to hang on until we got here, and she actually listened to me.
We’re now in Salt Lake, making sure everything is taken care of. Her cat Olive is in a good home, with a neighbor in the same apartment complex.
I’ve arranged to have my mom cremated. We’ll scatter her somewhere pretty.
Before she died, she was describing to me how wonderful it was that so many people wrote to her. She was touched that she had a positive impact on so many. She had no idea until the letters poured in the last two days. Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting, Heather. We all knew that she left for the hospital and was told the bad news but felt like we were left hanging. Glad that you are all there to take care of things. Glad that Olive has a good person to live with. Your mother was a great listener and she made feel cared for. I will miss so much and I hope that she has found peace.

Heather, thank you for posting. You have my condolences. I wanted to tell you that a friend of mine kept some of her mother’s cremains and when she came to a pretty place, she would say Mom would like it here and sprinkler a bit of her there. She visited Scotland and left a tiny bit of her mother on the castle. My love to you. Patsy

Heather, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing your Mom is no small thing, as I well know. I have admired your care for her even from great distances, and while you weren’t able to be with her when she passed, she knew you loved her and were on your way to her.
I will miss reading your Mom’s blog, which I have followed for many years. She was an amazingly resourceful woman with strong inner reserve, perseverance, and tenacity in the face of hardship and poor health most of us can’t even begin to imagine.
I pray you will find much comfort in the good memories, and in knowing she is free from the pain and difficulty here and now fully alive, happy, and healthy in the presence of Jesus whom she loved.
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.'” (John 11:25)

Thank you, Heather, for letting us know. It’s so hard to lose a parent, and my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of loss.
After years of reading your mom’s blog posts, I will miss hearing about her adventures. I have often been inspired by her insights and experiences, and I’ve marveled at her strength and determination. Still, it’s a relief to know that she’s beyond the reach of pain and has embarked on a grand new adventure in heaven.
May God bless you and your family.
