The forecast said we would have 2 to 6 inches of snow overnight. It was definitely more than 6!
Today highlighted a major flaw in our ability to deal with winter. Somehow I still have my winter coat. YES! 🙂 But I have no boots or shoes…just my Birkenstocks. Rhett has no shoes, boots OR winter coat.
Lack of appropriate clothing was a drag this morning. We also have no warm hats or scarves or mittens. I have pretty extreme Raynaud’s in my hands and feet. Both got quite cold as I stood in the deep snow and brushed snow from the RV.
When the Bishop shook my hand before church, he yelped and remarked how cold I was. By then I had warmed up a lot!
Sigh…when Rhett left Arizona to come be with his relatives in Utah, all the warm stuff disappeared….along with sooooo much else. I concentrated on getting food and food prep equipment replaced, and need to work on clothes, next.
Luckily I can still wear my existing clothes, but Rhett doesn’t fit into much. He is chubbier now than when I married him. He needs 4X shirts, sweaters and coats. I haven’t found any at Deseret Industries or on Freecycle.
Rhett was supposed to work on outdoor cane travel last week, but they wouldn’t let him while wearing Crocs and a sweatshirt.
Last week I used $30 in gas just for taking him to blind school and back. There is no help with those expenses. We THOUGHT there would be. Turns out the $50/month stipend is never in the student’s control. Last month they used it to go out to dinner (before Rhett was in school). This month the director called a meeting and told them their $50 would go for Christmas presents for needy kids. I am rather dumbfounded at that edict.
Money is in short supply with us. Again..I am NOT begging or asking for anything, I am describing what life is like for a married couple on disability. They take away over $350 in cash compared to the single person disability payment. It’s crazy.
We did make it to sacrament meeting at church…which was a huge accomplishment early on a cold, snowy day. But…I did not dare take any more narcotics after 5 PM last night so I would be capable of driving.
It was all I could do to make it through the first meeting! My leg was in excruciating pain since I couldn’t take meds or put my leg up. It was good to come home and take pain pills. Now I am quickly slipping back into zombie mode…
